This week, I finished reading about vegan nutrition and started another nonfiction book called Unbroken. Over Christmas, my MIL recommended it to me and then I read another encouraging review of it here. So I put it on hold at the library and was finally able to pick it up earlier this week.
I'm not terribly far into it, but I already think it's really well written and engaging. The preface is two pages long and after I read it, I was hooked. The author is such an amazing storyteller - and from what I gather, this is a really wonderful story to be told. It's about the incredible life of an Olympic runner and WWII vet named Louie. And in addition to loving the book itself, I also love that he and my dog share their name. Bonus points there.
I'm still trucking along on my cardigan. I had to rip out the entire left side after it was almost completely finished. I wasn't paying attention and missed a cable - but in my defense, I was watching the most recent episode of Downton Abbey, which put my in a state of emotional turmoil and kept me from focusing on what I was doing. Did any of you see it?

I adore your cardigan, I love the colour, the cables, everything - Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to have to check out this Downton Abbey, so many people mentioning it these days!
x
Thank you - I'm a big fan! Let me know how you like it!
Deleteeverything about your cardi is wonderful!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steph!
DeleteYou've just been trucking along with that cardigan. It looks great and you've made good progress considering you had to start the left side over. My parents have that book and I've been meaning to borrow it from them, but my pile of books is too big right now. I cancelled my netflix when the kid was born, but I'm going to re-up so I can watch Downtown Abbey on my ipad. Can't wati, I've heard lots of good things about it.
ReplyDeleteOh I know - I need something like a ravelry queue for my books - I'm starting to lose track! I *think* you might be able to find Downton on hulu too - and once you're caught up, the most current season is on the PBS website.
DeleteI think we have the same couch! Also- I haven't seen a single episode of Downton Abbey. Is it worth all the hype?
ReplyDeleteHow funny! Ikea? I really like Downton Abbey - definitely worth checking out. I don't know anyone has seen it and doesn't like it! Let me know what you think! :)
Deleteoh no, you missed a cable? don't you hate that? I'm glad you caught it before it was sewn and blocked. You are nearly done, can't wait to see the finished sweater!
ReplyDeleteTotally hate it! I almost didn't rip it back...but decided that would be a silly decision in the long run. :)
Deletebeautiful knitting, lovely cabling! i still haven't seen that show, am about to remedy it soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Have fun with Downton - I love it!
DeleteDownton is to blame for messing up a set up of booties, but they are so small I just frogged them (again) and determined no more knitting while watching Downton - a promise I'll keep until next week.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one being distracted by Downton! Maybe we just need to knit some super simple washcloths (or something) while we watch, instead of our usual projects...
DeleteSo sorry about your sleeve, I hate it when stuff like that happens. Downtown Abby, nope, not a fan...although have never seen it, so maybe I could be :)
ReplyDeleteThanks - hopefully I'll bounce back quickly. :) Oh, I love it - and wasn't sure I would before I started watching!
DeleteThe linked-chain cabling on your sweater is really neat, and YES I did see the last episode of Downton and was frankly shocked! Couldn't believe it!
ReplyDeleteI know! I couldn't believe it either. I was such a hot mess, too - Mr. came into the room while I was watching and asked what was wrong with me! :)
DeleteI just read Unbroken too! I LOVED it! Acer is on my list this year.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Another great review - I love it! Acer is a great knit - you'll have fun with it for sure!
DeleteMy husband read Unbroken and thought it was excellent. Your blog is lovely! I'm looking forward to checking back here from time to time. and thank you so much for your kind words in my comments!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear it! I'll definitely be stopping by your space too! :)
DeleteI've heard very good things about that book. Glad you're enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the Acer when it's done.
Thanks! :)
DeleteThat episode was very distracting and upsetting! Sad about the frogging, though!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I think we have the same couch! I took my yarn along photo there as well. ;)
Oh my gosh, it was, wasn't it? And I went back to re-read your post after you mentioned your couch - you're totally right! It has to be the same one! Did you see Julie's comment above? She thinks she has the same one too! :)
DeleteHaha, I keep spying that couch fabric on blogs - make me feel like I have a fashionable sofa. ;)
