Today I'm joining Ginny at Small Things for her weekly Yarn Along,
which pairs books with knitting projects. I mean, come on.
I am reading an old, familiar favorite -
I often find myself looking for books that are just like this one - filled with talking animals, snow, magic, mythical creatures, adventure, and turkish delight. Sometimes I come close, but most of the time it's better just to read the original.
For as old and familiar as my book is, this knitting technique is not.
I'm making Mr. a winter hat - a brioche winter hat.
(Pattern found in my favorite knitting book ever - Weekend Knitting by Melanie Falik.)
It's a beautiful pattern and a beautiful stitch.
I was, as I often am, intimidated by this pattern because I had heard horror stories about brioche knitting. But it turned out, as it often does, to be not quite as difficult as I thought it would be.

One of my favorite books, too!!! (Knitting Weekend....made the brioche hat years ago! loved it!) And not that long ago downloaded the Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe----somehow that one had escaped my children's childhood. (Recently loved Wildwood....same kind of fantasy!!!)
ReplyDeleteYah! I made a few rookie mistakes, but I don't think my husband will care. :) Wildwood is on my reading list! I happy to hear that you loved it. I'm sure you'll love the Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe too - it's hard not to love!
DeleteI love the lion the witch and the wardrobe, but I haven't read them since I was a kid. I really enjoy revisiting my childhood favorites though, so perhaps it's time I revisited these.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend it! I love re-reading childhood favorites, especially on rainy days - enjoy it!
DeleteLove the hat - very unique. I guess The Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe escaped my youth. And I call myself a Reading Specialist.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Mr. picked the colors - can you tell? :) You should totally read it, Jill! I bet you would love it.
